This castle was reassembled from the remnants of a dilapidated and crumbled series of ruins. With a viable layout and nearby water source with a decent proximity to the ocean, it was a perfect start for a near coast, low cost, high opportunity place. Aurelian Trent, son of Trenton Alexander, was a fallen Lord who was excommunicated from his position due to the mistakes of his own father. With some relations and resources still intact, Trent as able to repair the castle and, as the flow of commerce solidified, enforce its walls for a far longer lasting promise.
Trent's coat of arms is Teal and Tan with a Crowned Hawl-Eagle holding wheat in one talon and a tankard in the other, signifying the cultures which came together between Nobles, Farmers, and Brewers to establish the kingdom.
Aurelian Trent had established mines under his own name when he fell into the world of Wyl during the breach of the walls of the realm. His political influence and education allowed him to ascend the ranks of some quarries of a soon to fall system previously overseen by Balin. As Balin fell into financial ruin, Trent's rise was guaranteed with no one to contest him. With ownership and claim to now abandoned mines and quarries, Trent located the land on which some appealing ruins once stood. The foundations still viable and some of the walls already prebuilt, he took advantage of the long forgotten castle remains and had them restored without having to start from scratch.
Since it's establishment, Trent Castle has earned it's name as the capital of the forward most governed force in the Eiderian Hills to keep Arkalas, a necromancer who rose to power near the same time, at bay and walled him and his armies off from the Northern kingdoms.
Due to the combination of Trent's original primary income as a man who ran mining operations and desired to cultivate the hills and landscapes for farming, the the territories of Trent are mixed between those two forms of lifestyle. With the involvement of the War against Arkalas, there is also a strong sense of comradery and battleworn, former refugees.
Due to the seaside access and proximity to the mountains, one of the most specialized exports of Trent's Territory is ice-cream, on top of the natural resources. Trade relations with the islands provides sweetened tropical fruit which contributes to the diverse setting of food resources.
A post created and initiated by Aurelian Trent, the Praetorian are among the highest tier of officer one can achieve save for the King. They command respect and emanate an air of authority, however they do not directly fall in line among the command chain unless assigned by the King himself for specific situations. They act autonomously and do not have access to chain of commend, again, unless the King deems it so in the moment. Their responsibility is to protect, and enact the will of their King. Praetorians are the single most carefully trained that their skills can act as in order to counter think and prepare against assassins, can observe and make predictions about the path of their enemy in war strategies, and know all available forms of combat in the greatest available setting of training.
A Praetorian's daily regiment consists of a great deal of training, mental preparation via meditation and pre-thinking the day they expect in order to complete all things in the most efficient manner possible. In the evening, or once all tasks are complete, the Praetorian may become more social and lax, yet still carrying themselves with the dignity and poise of an attentive soldier.
A Praetorian is responsible for the protection of the King and active counter intelligence in wartime including assassination plot investigation and preconceiving the notions of a coup in order to halt them before they can be enacted.
Protection of the people is immediately important after protecting the King himself, providing aid to town guards and soldiers when and where necessary.
Praetorians also enact the will of the King, this includes venturing out to correct anomalies in the structure of order and outing faults in flow. While Praetorians do not necessarily operate within the chain of command, they do have the authority to audit and correct where cases are great enough to deem immediate corrective action.
Praetorians are not necessarily a secret division, but they are to be spoken of as little as possible to avoid the attention of others and not be tracked by assassins or other intelligence agents who would otherwise try to subvert their purpose. Even the ceremony of officiating as a Praetorian is a ceremony held between the King and those becoming Praetorians. Not even their mentors or other Praetorians may be present for this ceremony.
A Praetorian to be swears by their soul and sword to adhere to their duty until released by the King himself, or they fall to death. The Praetorian then submerges themselves in water blessed by the King and the light of his sword (The King must be a Paladin recognized by the gods or no new Praetorians may be made). Upon spending a few moments fully submerged in the water, the shimmering of the holy energy will go into them and they may emerge a Praetorian.
Praetorians must abide by their oath and choose a path of two qualities; Silence or Celibacy. Their word and their swords bind them to the oath. Forsaking their responsibilities will cause them distress and haunt their thoughts until they can rectify.
Falling from Oath is a death sentence. All available Praetorians are immediately sent out to kill or arrest the fallen Praetorian. If they are captured, the King may decide to let them rectify, if they are killed, they are honored as fallen for the deeds they completed while still under respect to their Oath.
Praetorians work a thankless job. Their efforts, while spoken of when necessary, often go hardly noticed or with any great recognition. However, their work and titles become whispers among the people which causes their mere presence to command respect or fear to those who have heard of their deeds.
The life of a Praetorian is modest and paid with necessity. Their retirement is handsome, but withheld until they come of an age where their bodies do not permit the work any longer. While the office and station of a Praetorian is on par with their station within the castle, upon venturing out anywhere else, they must make their own accommodations with their Per Dium.
